Each year through 2012, two thousand additional students are expected as many families choose to live in southwest Denver real estate and seek out the highly regarded school district. Communities included in the Douglas County School District include Castle Rock, Larkspur, Lone Tree, Parker, Acres Green, Carriage Club, Castle Pines, Castle Pines North, Cottonwood, Franktown, Grand View Estates, Heritage Hills, Highlands Ranch, Louviers, Meridian, Perry Park, Roxborough Park, Sedalia, Stonegate, The Pinery, Westcreek, parts of Aurora and Littleton, and more.
Parents and students find a variety of innovative programs and choices from charter schools to gifted-and-talented programs, year-round elementary schools, to magnet schools, a night high school, an alternative high school, a university center, an International Baccalaureate program, and Advanced Placement courses.

Families also have the option to open enroll their students in any Douglas County school if space is available. Class sizes are limited as follows: Grades K-3, 23 students; Grades 4-6, 26 students; Grades 7-8, 19.5 students, and Grades 9-12, 20.5 students.
Individual schools find support and coordination at the district level, but each of the 70 schools has the flexibility to build its own instructional programs. Employing "well researched, integrated and standards-based curriculum, a rich array of extracurricular offerings and strong community involvement," Douglas County School District strives to "create responsible citizens who contribute to society."
And they like doing it through setting good examples. Volunteers help the district provide the best education possible for a thriving area of the nation. So far, the learning process has been greatly improved by the half a million hours of volunteer time provided to the district schools and administrative offices. The students benefit from watching parents and community members volunteer.
