an outstanding community infrastructure and a wide variety of very affordable home choices. In 2004, the Colorado Economic Development Council chose the City of Brighton as Large Community of the Year.
You will find that the cost of buying a home in Brighton is extremely affordable. The cost of housing is still among the lowest in the Denver Metropolitan area, with the cost of housing averaging between $200,000 and $240,000 depending on whether you are purchasing an existing home or a newly built home. There are also many different types of housing options to choose from, including everything from "starter" homes to townhomes and condos to "executive" estates.
Brighton has a dynamic economy, that keeps the unemployment rate very low, features stable job expansion, and promises a high projected future job growth (more than twice the national projection for the next ten years). Brighton is also well positioned to benefit from the quickly expanding "green economy": Vestas America, a company that is investing $230 million in a local wind-power turbine nacelle and blade manufacturing facility, is generating 1,350 new jobs locally. Other companies that offer jobs locally include Halliburton, along with the K-Mart and Staples distribution centers. Brighton, being home to the county seat, is also considered a major employer in the region.
Brighton owns and operates twenty neighborhood and community parks, comprising thirty plus miles of trails and 600 acres of wide open space. The city operates and manages a first-class recreation center with all of the newest amenities, ball fields, an outdoor swimming pool and a recreation center for our senior citizens. It goes without saying that the availability of an extensive array of recreational facilities gives young and old alike the opportunity to become involved in a wide range of recreational activities. Further, there is Barr Lake State Park, which is a source of numerous outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking, boating, fishing, bird and eagle watching and nature walks. Ice fishing, skiing, and snowshoeing are winter activities you can participate in inside the State Park as well.
Brighton also offers a full array of opportunities for learning. The school district's mission to provide an excellent education for all is evidenced by the high rate of graduation for our students and the fact that our students score above both the state and national averages on the SAT's. Brighton's close proximity to Denver brings many post-secondary opportunities, including access to institutions such as Regis College, the University of Colorado and the Colorado State University.
In all, Brighton is a lively city which has many companies offering ample employment opportunities as well as many schools and areas of recreation making it a wonderful place to work, live and play. This ideal community offers any amenity anyone could desire, yet it retains that crucial "down-home" ambiance.
