The Craig & Gould Neighborhood is one of the first platted neighborhoods in Castle Rock, CO. Jeremiah Gould donated the land (120 acres) for the town of Castle Rock in early 1874 and on part of this land, in July of 1874, the neighborhood plat for Craig & Gould was filed. John Craig, a friend of Gould, was Mayor of Castle Rock several times and was a well known Democrat in the political circles of Colorado.
You will find many types and styles of architecture in the Craig & Gould neighborhood such as Cottage, Four Square, bungalow, rhyolite stone and even Gothic Revival. This wide range of architecture is due to the fact that homes in this area were built between the mid 1870s to the late 1920s.
Recognizing the significant historical value of the Craig & Gould neighborhood the town of Castle Rock undertook a $16 million dollar renovation to roads,

water, sewers and storm drains. Numerous trees were cut down to allow for the road work but the town of Castle Rock has replaced them all in the landscaping phase of this project. The landscaping phase included a beautiful bronze statue at the corner of Gilbert & Hwy 86 and many markers placed at each historical home in the neighborhood. There are also monuments that denote the historical Craig & Gould neighborhood and a six-foot stone wall was erected to protect the neighborhood from the noise of Hwy 86 and also to set apart the neighborhood. The town of Castle Rock has a wonderful historical walking tour through this neighborhood, which is well worth taking!
