Commerce City, Colorado is located between Denver, CO and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge. Commerce City is located on 34 square miles and since it is located next to the Wildlife Refuge residents have many activities available to them including nature walks and classes offered by the Visitors Center's Wildlife Learning Lab.

This is an awesome area for bird watchers as the refuge has many different species to watch and learn about. If you are a hiker or biker there are 8 miles of trails within the refuge to use. Aside from the wildlife refuge Commerce City has 17 public parks, 360 square acres of open space, 27 miles of trails and 3 Recreation Centers. Each of Commerce City's parks offers a wide range of activities and facilities so one can maximize their outdoor experience. The three Recreation Centers offer many programs and activities for those from toddlers to seniors!

In 2004 Commerce City purchase from the Federal Government 917 acres of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. This land is being developed as the Prairie Gateway and includes preservation of 40 acres of prairie with its native short grass. Plans for Prairie Gateway include: a new High School, a visitor center for the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge with a learning center (completed), 500,000 square feet of retail & commercial space, the Colorado

Rapids new home - 20,000 seat stadium, Commerce Cities new Civic Center (completed), and a Lodge with Conference Center.
