Beginning in 1860, the community began with a little old shack called Twenty Mile House for a stage stop. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the bank was robbed, railroad tracks were washed out, and low prices in the produce market almost destroyed the village. As Denver grew towards the area, Parker incorporated in 1981 with 285 people to avoid annexation. Twenty-five years later, there are over 40,000 residents.

However, governmental agencies and residents have worked to sustain the small-town atmosphere in the beautiful rural area. Adopting a pro-business attitude, utilizing technology and creativity, the community has pulled together an exemplary sense of teamwork and volunteerism.

The Douglas County School District places children as top priority--with great results. The County has the highest level of test grades in the state and is rated second in the nation for its programs. It offers charter schools and innovative program such as partnering with area universities to allow high school students to earn college credit. Private schools include a Montessori school, three parochial grade schools, and a parochial high school.

With the Mile High City to the northwest and the Rocky Mountain playground to the west, residents have access to the full gamut of quality-of-life activities from destination attractions, amenities, employment, dining, shopping, cultural and sporting venues and events, and every kind of recreation, to associations, services, medical facilities, charitable organizations, and non-profits.
