Situated at a historic crossroads along U.S. 85 to Castle Rock and on the way to Pike National Forest, the quaint town is rich in history and architecture. During the western pioneer days, the Manhart family of 15 successfully operated the General Store. They received a substantial amount of business from the thriving lumber industry in Pike National Forest as the railroad transported lumber through town on tracks located within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Adventures along the Front Range never stop. There is fabulous fly fishing along the South Platte River west of town and trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding throughout the Rampart Range. Of course, many people getting out for fresh air still stop in town for a bite to eat, a cold drink, or an ice cream. The post-Victorian Edwardian style antique shop, Historic Fire Station Museum and Gardens and the Corner Bar are other spots to hitch a horse or mountain bike. The old General Store is currentlya popular destination restaurant called Gabriel's Italian Dining, which attracts visitors from far and wide to its outstanding menu.
Modern-day shopping is about 15 minutes away in Highlands Ranch and Castle Rock. A little closer are the new luxury shops and restaurants in the Village at Castle Pines. The excellent Douglas County School District, a number #1 choice by parents, serves the families.
